On the fundraising side of things, the stadium committee held their first Gala Ball in the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone last Saturday night. About 330 people were at it at E100 a head. By all accounts it was a great night, going on til after 5 in the morning.

They have also been donated a lease to a horse for the summer! The donator wishes to reamin anonymous but will take care of all the expenses and allow all the winnings to go to the Stadium Fund. It will be called Stadium Project and run in the colours of Athlone Town. It will be trained in Tony Mullins' yard in Carlow. As well as the financial potential, it is hoped it will provide a major PR boost to the project.

The next major fundraiser takes place on March 18th, with Cheltenham Gold Cup Day taking place in the Hodson Bay again. On going fundraising includes the Buy a Sod for individual/families and corporate sector. There is also an annual Golf Classic in Dublin.

We are pleased to confirm one million Euro has already been approved by Lottery Funding, but it is very important to point out that further government funding may be approved on the basis of local community contributions.
